What is the cheapest way to move my belongings?

November 6, 2009

Right now, I have my bedroom furniture (twin bed, desk, bookshelves, 3ft. dresser), books, dishes, papers and clothes in storage. I am in the process of relocating out-of-town. What is the cheapest way to move these items? Considering Budget and UHaul, I haven't drove in a long while, so I don't quite trust my driving ability.

  1. Get someone in your family to drive then. Not a joke, but quite frankly doing it yourself, it definitely more cost effective than outsourcing t a moving company or shipping it all. If you are not that confident in your own ability to transport the furniture (which all is perhaps a little big and bulky) but not a lot in the scheme of all the household furniture, see if you can get a friend or family member to at least help you y driving it for you. Cheers!

  3. I have to disagree – when we moved recently I investigated both driving the things myself and having a moving company take them. The petrol (gasoline ;-) ) for the trip was the killer – moving companies can make economies of scale in this respect, and also make use of rail where possible, whereas private drivers can’t. I’d just look around for a good quote.
