Spray wax on wood furniture, just for dust or does it protect wood?
December 10, 2009
When I dust my furniture with spray wax, the stuff in a can, is it simply getting up the dust and making it glossy or is it also somehow moisturizing and protecting the wood??? Thanks.

The spray stuff is not particularly good for furniture and most fine furniture manufactures do not recommend it’s use. They have silicones for shine and not much wood "nourishment or protection"
Below is good info from the Smithsonian institute furniture curator..

both
I like to believe it protects the wood.
It probably does by adding a thin layer of wax.
its making dust go bye bye
It’s supposed to do both, must most often for me it creates a wax buildup that eventually looks cloudy.
I like better the way wood looks when I dust it and then polish it with lemon oil. It removes patches of adhesive or grime, makes the wood look healthy, adds deeper moisture, and doesn’t get dusty nearly as fast.
It does both.
i think there are some that will protect it.
