I’m remodeling my room, but I’m having trouble finding low-priced furniture and decoration. Any cheap sites?

December 5, 2009

This entire project is being paid for out of my own pocket (I'm 15 and I don't have a job other than the odd jobs I can pick up, so simply put, I'm really low on the income, parents won't pay a cent).

One wall is going to be black/white diamonds, another red/black diamonds, one black with hand-drawn anime characters, one covered with posters. The ceiling wil be back with the Hellsing rune on it. The windows will have one black, one white curtain, and there will be dangling lights, and spotlights of different colors, installed.

I've been searching the internet for cheap furniture and decor but all I've found is an official bedding set and some pillows. I can't seem to find any really good places for anything and I'm stuck. Thrift stores near me are checked all the time but I'm stuck with places to go that sell for low to medium prices. I've got a couple hundred dollars to spend and I can push that to 1,000 if I really push, but I'm stuck.

Are there any ways I can get what I want?

  1. That sounds like a decorators nightmare! Yikes! But, to answer your question, try some local thrift stores, you can usually find some cool pieces there cheap! Or some yard sales.

  2. Try these sites
    http://www.ikea.com
    http://www.abcdistributing.com
    http://www.ltdcommodities.com
    http://www.collectionsetc.com

Good Luck and Have Fun :-)

  3. Go to wall mart or k-mart for bedding. see if there is a rent-a-center near you they have used furniture for sale

  4. First you could try e-bay. Local pick up option only so you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for the shipping. Thats option 1. Option 2 go to consignment shops you could always re-finish the furniture the way you want it to look, yeah it’s work but in the end you can say that you styled it that way. Option 3 is IKEA. Depending on where you love you can go there and check things out or go to their website. They have alot of things there that you can finish the way that you want it to look as well and finished products.
Option 4 is Big Lots. Of course most of these places you are going to have to have somebody drive you there and help carry the stuff but they are all pretty cheap and affordable. I hope all works out it sould like your room is going to look pretty neat. Have Fun.

  5. Try some rent-to-own places. Often they rent to model homes and then have to sell the furniture as "used" even tho it only sat around in a demo home for a few months. I got my daughters bedroom set for a SONG!! The only thing I had to change out were the knobs on the dresser. See if there is a Cort Furniture listing in your area.

  6. check ebay or overstock.com
    target good too

  7. Sounds like you are redecorating not remodeling. Try some garage sales and even estate sales. Sometimes the children of the deceased just want to unload the person’s possessions for really cheap. Envision what you want so that you won’t be tempted to buy out of impulse.Look in the classified ads for these and good luck. Get what you want.

  8. The Lady with the 1st answer had the best web-sites. you can also try, wal-mart, target you can even try goodwill.com. Have fun and good luck!

  9. Well you can start by getting some great ideas here….
