I need to buy a new office/computer chair, but I want to purchase one that won’t outgass chemicals. Help?

November 20, 2009

These days, most office chairs are constructed of a veritable slew of carcinogenic and neurotoxic chemicals, that continue to outgass for years after purchase. Since having cancer doesn't appeal to me, I'd like a chair that will not outgass these things. At local office supply and furniture stores, would I be able to find any chairs that will be safe to use? What kind should I look for?

  1. Get all-leather instead of vinyl. Get a cushion that isn’t made with toxic foam. (I think the term is off-gassing.)

  2. I appreciate your concern. But I confess I am more concerned about how an office chair treats my back and legs! Some of the so-called ergonomic chairs available today are so uncomfortable to work with for any length of time. Comfort and maintaining good posture are my major issues when choosing office chairs.
