how to get a password off a computer?

July 30, 2010

I have not used my desk top in 3 years and just unpacked it and set it up to grab all my daughter's baby pictures off of it. But it's asking for a password, and i forget it.. So is there another way around to get on my computer without my old password?? Any help would be great. Thanks
Sorry about that, I am using Windows XP.

  1. Windows XP:
Turn on the computer. Right after the boot screen shows, but *before* Windows starts loading, press "F8" repeatedly until a menu appears. In the menu, select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. Wait for it to load. Log in as the "Administrator." (No password.) Find your files and copy them off. (Should be in C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\My Pictures)
(To reset the forgotten password: Start > Run > "control userpasswords2" (no quotes) > OK. In the program that appears, you’ll be able to reset the password. See http://wiki.ljackson.us/Control_Userpasswords2 for more.

  2. Can’t (actually won’t) help you with password, but you can get your pix

Remove the HD from the desktop. Buy a USB adapter and use it to connect the HD to your laptop (or any other computer).
Pix are usually at: X*:\documents and settings\{UserName}\My Documents\My Pictures
*- it was ‘C’, but it won’t be ‘C’ when connected to another PC.

Solution 1: If you have owned another available admin password, it can work. Just log on your PC->Click "Start"button->Control Panel->Add or remove user account->Select the account you want to reset->Change or Remove the password. Then the password will be reset.

Solution 2: You can use one of the password recovery software tool to reset the forgotten password. Here, i would like to introduce you one of them, which i have applied. It is really a good hand. That is Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 . The process is following.
Step 1: Download the Windows Password Recovery Tool and burn a erasable CD,
Step 2: Boot the CD into the ISO image which is provided by Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0
    Step 3:BIOS settings
Step 4:Recover the Windows admin XP password.
