How do I get the smell of cigarette smoke out of a wooden desk?

November 8, 2009

I just purchased a used home office desk. It is solid wood. I didn't realize that it smelled so badly of cigarette smoke until it was delivered and is now sitting in my non-smoking house. Would Murphy's Oil Soap work? I would appreciate help as I really like the desk but I will not be able to keep it if I can't eliminate the odor.

  1. Since there is probably a "film" of smoke on the desk, use the Murphy’s Oil Soap on the exterior, and inside of drawers, and when dry, Place a newspaper with charcoal briquetes on it, in the drawers and change them every few days. They will absorb the odor and leave it smelling clean and fresh.

It’s what I did and it worked perfectly.

    Hope this helps !
