How can I stop being the one stuck with the grunt work at my office?
March 11, 2010
I am the lead sales person in my office and yet I get stuck doing EVERYTHING that no one else wants to do.....emptying file cabinets, moving files around the office, emptying bookshelves to move the books elsewhere, etc.......it's not that I am not willing to do it but no one else in my office ever does this stuff...my boss will mention oh you do this and I'll have someone else do that and well the other person never does it so my boss will have me do it.......it's getting annoying....any tips on how I can stop this or at least split up the work load?

I know exactly how you feel, If i were u i’d talk to ur boss about it. That’s what i did at my work, but i also have a boss who cares less. If that doesnt solve it than i would go to his boss. They usually hate it when people do that. Hope this helps and hope it gets better.
Sounds like your boss is afraid to tell the employees to do it instead of asking.
Bye the way i like what u said about ignorant people on your profile!!!
It is really your boss who should delegate these jobs. i would have a word with him. As a manager i set out each member of staff a specific job that worked very well and if a job was not done i would know exactly who was to blame, My staff also enjoyed having there own little section to look after and took pride. kind of name and shame it does work
Say no, stop being a pushover.
Inform the boss of the profit loss because of your duties. Make this not about you "whining" but more of you "Helping" the company. If the boss is a jerk. take your experince to another job. Your not a grunt. You a top of hte pops lead sales person. Anything that stops you from making sales, is a horrid thing. ESPECIALLIY in sales.
You probably get stuck doing it because everyone else has figured how to avoid it, knowing that you’ll do it eventually. Are you lowest on the senioity ladder? If so, you may be getting dumped on because you’re the newest and everyone else already went throught his particular rite of passage.
You might try speaking to your boss and indicating that you feel you are ready for more "challenging" assignments – ask what you need to do to be prepared for those assignments when they come along. When they do, you’ll be "too busy" working on the new account presentation to move books.
The next time that the file cabinet needs emptying, you could also mention the pulled muscle you got from a weekend tennis match/bike ride/whatever, and ask if someone else could take care of it this time. The boss will see a potential worker’s comp injury and may let you off the hook. Doing this a time or two will get everyone else trained to the idea that you aren’t the office gofer.
Good luck!
