Do you believe Huckabee’s denial that was a “floating cross” in the background of his Christmas commercial?

October 19, 2009

If you've not seen the Mike Huckabee Christmas commercial, here's the link:

There is a bookshelf in the background, painted white & shining in the lights behind Huckabee's head. As the camera trucks side to side, this bookshelf appears to form a "floating cross" in the background as Huckabee reminds us to think about the birth of Jesus this Christmas.

Some have called this a "subliminal message" & that the cross was intentional. Huckabee, however, laughs it off and says no, it was just a bookshelf and not intentionally included as a crucifix.

What do you think? Would not the camera man or director have seen this as the commercial was shot & maybe said something about it? Do you believe Huckabee is telling the truth when he said it was totally coincidental? Or did they know exactly what they were doing & Huckabee just didn't want to be accused of resorting to tricky or subliminal advertising?

Speaks to his credibilility.
I want to make it perfectly clear that at least in my book, there would have been nothing wrong with including a crucifix in a Christmas commercial talking about Christ. That's not what I'm focusing on here. What I'm interested in knowing was whether you believe Huckabee was telling the truth or not when he denied it? Wouldn't that be lieing to our faces if in truth, the "floating cross" was intentional but Huckabee did not want to admit it?
I also want to note that some believe subliminal advertising can be more effective than showing or admitting blantantly what it is the advertiser wants you to think, believe or do. That is, the power of suggestion on our subconscious mind can lead to behavioral modification in ways we believe are actually, our own ideas versus that from others. That's just a theory, folks, and not hard science because it's very difficult to prove what is really going on in our thought process, subconsciously.
I appreciate the info on the origin of Christmas. Thank you. As for having a crusifix in the commercial, no I am not offended at all. I am a Christian myself. Again, my POINT is that I think Huckabee is LIEING because that cross is so obvious but he denies it was intentional. On today's news programs (Dec. 21), there is considerable criticism from even conservative Christian leaders that Huckabee may be using Christianity for political motives (i.e. to get himself elected) and there is supposed to be separation of church and state. So if Huckabee really is lieing, I think folks should know that before they vote for him.

It would be great if someone had some inside information on who wrote that commercial, set up the background and lighting, and if the cross was intentional. Look at the commercial again and you'll see...it is quite prominent. I'd have preferred he just have a real cross and point to it versus getting tricky with images...IF that is what he was doing.
