A disaster happened in our village???? Have anything to say??

October 24, 2009

I am Erick Royce R. Cunanan I am a 13 year old boy from the Philippines. A typhoon named "Ondoy" hit our country and left our country homeless. Last Saturday, September 26, it was raining very hard and it was nonstop, the rain was flooding the streets and soon the flood was in our house. There was a brownout that day. Also Sept. 26 is the birthday of one of my friends in school. I bet he had the worst birthday of his life during the typhoon. My parents were carrying things from the fist floor up to the second floor like The TV, the books, the CD's and DVD's, our food, and other appliances or things at home. The flood was up to my stomach on the fist floor and if you went out the water will reach your head. The water was terrifying deep and dirty. Some of our things were left down the fist floor like the refrigerator, the toaster, the bookshelf, the dining table, the radio, the gas range, the christmas lights and decors and some papers or books. They all were soaked on the water and some were destroyed and we had to buy new ones to replace them. We didn't have any cold water. We only ate some bread and hot water. We used candles or flashlights at night. IT was hot and dark during night time. The Second floor was very narrow that you could easily bump the objects because some things on the first floor was to be put up there by my parents so they will not get wet or destroyed. We got some food like rice from our neighbors, you have to go up the roof of the house to get the food. My Aunties and Uncles and some of my father's officemates came to give some relief goods like a can of corned beef or sardines, some rice and disposables plates, spoons and forks and to clean the house which was very dirty and full of Mud. Our car does not work anymore my father is still fixing and cleaning it. He did not go to his office for one week and I did not go to school for one week. He even puts some of the car parts on the roof. Our wooden chair was missing and also some of our slippers and trash cans. All our neighbors took their stuff out and were busy cleanin them. The computer shops were destroyed that they would spend Php 250,000 to replace the broken computers. There was a dead dog, a dead horse and some dead chickens. I Believe the animals died because of drowning. There were lots of floating objects on the water like floating slippers or shoes, floating wood, bags, garbage, plastic, clothes. The plants and trees lost some leaves, their leaves were covered in mud and it was almost leaveless. I had to commute from our house going to school and vice versa. I arrived late at school and at home. It could take us a month before the car will be alright again. What happened to the Philippines was an unexpected tragedy that affected the lives of many. It was terrible, it was a tragedy, I wish It was just a nightmare, it was like we were punished by God for our wrongdoings. Typhoon Ondoy killed lots of people and animals and it destroyed a lot of plants and flowers. please pray for our country. Thank you.

  1. Well first let me say I am personally glad you found a computer, I was very worried about you and my other contacts from the Philippines. You are the first to let us know you are o.k. I would like to apologize for all the rude and horrifying comments, it is just unbelievable that people can be so thoughtless. I hope your family and your Grandmother are all well. I hope your friend can find some way to recover from this, I guess he will always remember this birthday. It is lucky that your parents were able to at least save some things. I hope your mom saved her cook books, that would be tragic. The water had to be deep to come to your stomach, you are very tall. I am sorry about the christmas decorations, That is terrible. You can’t just go out and replace them like you can a refrigerator. I am so sorry. It is lucky that your family had the money to at least try and replace some things. It was lucky that you had candles and flash lights. that was very lucky too. I hate going on the roof of a house, I am afraid of heights. It is nice that your neighbors helped out with food, it could take a long time for things to get back to normal. That was smart that your family knew to give you disposable plates and forks and stuff so your mom wouldn’t have to wash dishes. She will probably have to boil water for a long time, until the water is really safe to drink again. I hope your Father can get the car fixed, I know how hard it is to be without a car. Maybe someone from his office can help him with that. I am sorry you had to miss school. I hope you find the wooden chair, there is no telling how far the water could have carried it, or if it got broke because of the force of the water. I am so sorry you had to see so many dead animals. That just makes me cry to think how terrible that is for you. I guess they probably did die because of drowning. That just breaks my heart. I hope the trees can somehow survive. I hope you can commute to school, even if you are late, that is still better than missing school. I hope your dad finds a way to get the car parts he needs to get the car running. I don’t think God punished you or anyone for wrong doing. Floods happen, and fires happen, and earthquakes happen, but it isn’t because someone did something bad. I always pray for you. I will pray for your country and hope that my other contacts can get to a computer so we will know if they are o.k.. I am sorry people were so rude. I am sorry you had to go through such a terrible event. We only watched it on tv and worried about the people who lived there. I am glad you are fine, and your family is fine. I am sorry for everything you lost, but you still have your family, and that is what counts. The clean up will take a while, but have faith. It will someday get back to normal. I will keep praying. Peace be with you and your family and those in your country.

  2. How do you have internet if your village was destroyed by a Typhoon? Go to bed.

  3. She has you there…

  4. Should have thought about that..

  5. "The computer shops were destroyed" – what a miracle that your computer was saved and you can still use the internet. Better get offline now and eat some more bread and water

  6. God bless u and all other Filipinos . Long live Philippines !!!
