The great thing about furniture is that a lot of it can be refurbished. Our office recently moved locations and they had to get “new” furniture. They ended up buying used office furniture (I think from the former tenants) and paid to have it all stripped down and repainted.

I just went to an auction in my small town of about 3,000 people and found 2 beautiful desks for less than $500. Why? A furniture store was going out business, and they were auctioning their floor models.

Hehe. I did this for my home office. Just looked for a local used furniture store, asked a friend who’s also looking for furniture for his company to come with me and buy at the same time. We were able to haggle for further discounts because we were sort of buying in bulk. We saved a lot of money buying used office furniture!

Yesterday, I went to this store that offered used furniture for auction. Got a couple nice ones. It never occurred to me that you can also buy used office furniture online as well. I know better next time.
This is a big thing in Toronto many places are buying used furniture and then having them electrostatically repainted. Some oak desks are sanded and then re-stained or just urethaned.
Sometimes refinishing furniture is better than even buying new because you get to choose exactly the colors and fabrics you want.
Buying old office furnitre is most definetly a better option than buying, as desks etc will take a long time to wear down. However, you will still find that as it has been used it may not be as modern or in good condition as new, maybe try hiring furnishings on contract?
